Overdrive units produce the warm and powerfull sounding distortion like the sound of an overdriven tube amplifier. Distortion units create harder distortion effects. Fuzz units recreate the sound of early 60s distortion boxes used by J.hendrix or 60's guitar greats.

Compressor reduces hot signal levels and boosts low input levels for a more consistent,balanced sustain with no distortion. This can also emphasizes attack.
